Carolina Soto-Palma

Postdoctoral Associate

Carolina earned her bachelor’s degree in Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Afterwards, she completed an MRes in Biosciences at the Institute of Healthy Ageing at University College London (UCL), where she had the opportunity to conduct her research on long-lived worms. Next, she carried out her doctoral studies within the UCL Cancer Institute. As part of her PhD thesis, she explored the relationship between histone lysine methyltransferases/demethylases and aging in flies. Carolina’s deep interest in aging led her to pursue a postdoc in Niedernhofer’s lab, where she is currently interested in epigenetics and genome maintenance mechanisms and their relation with senescence and aging, while making use of the extraordinary mouse models with which the lab has. She has been involved in the conversations of the issues surrounding equity in science, and she is also currently part of the steering committee of the UMN Postdoctoral Association. During her spare time, she enjoys running and attending international films festivals.
